While sometimes it may be very obvious, slow gas leaks may not be noticeable right away. How to tell if you have a gas leak

Natural gas leak detection is important for every San Antonio home or business owner to know, especially if it’s a slow leak that isn’t causing obvious medical symptoms right away.

• Foul odor like rotten eggs. Some people will recognize this smell as sulfur. Gas companies add foul-smelling chemicals to natural gas so that it can be detected in case of a leak. 
• Whistling or hissing sounds. Pipes that have a leak may produce noises from the pressure. If you hear this sound even when your appliances are turned off, check for other signs of a gas leak.
• Abnormal stovetop flames. If you have a gas stove, the flame that remains after igniting the burner should be a steady blue color. If it stays orange or yellow, this indicates that there is a leak.
• Medical gas poisoning symptoms. High levels of gas exposure can cause severe headaches, nausea, fatigue, difficulty breathing, and memory problems. If you develop any of these symptoms every time you come home, remove yourself and call for help.
