Air Duct Cleaning In San Antonio

Same-day air duct cleaning with optional sanitizing.

Air duct cleaning removes the dust, debris and buildup that collect inside your home’s supply and return ducts, so your AC and heating system moves cleaner air with less restriction. Air & Drain Works provides residential air duct cleaning services across greater San Antonio, finished the same day by a licensed air conditioning contractor that inspects your whole system, not just the ducts.

When Should You Have Your Air Ducts Cleaned?

You don’t need to clean your air ducts on a fixed schedule. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recommends duct cleaning when one of these is true:

  • There is visible mold growth inside the ducts or on other parts of the system
  • The ducts have been infested by rodents or insects
  • The ducts are clogged with excessive dust and debris, or particles are blowing out of your vents

In San Antonio homes, a few other situations make duct cleaning worth a look:

  • You just finished a remodel and construction dust got into the system
  • You moved into a home and don’t know when the ducts were last cleaned
  • You have pets that shed heavily
  • Dust settles on furniture again within a day or two of cleaning

Why Air Ducts Get Dirty In San Antonio

San Antonio is hard on ductwork. In many homes the ducts run through the attic, where summer heat and humidity make condensation and mold more likely. Dust from dry, windy stretches and ongoing construction finds its way into return vents. And every winter, cedar pollen season puts a heavy load on your filters and ducts. A system that runs most of the year moves a lot of air, and anything in that air can settle inside the ducts.

Signs And Symptoms Of Dirty Air Ducts

Dirty air ducts usually show up in ways you can see or smell:

  • Dust or debris puffs out of the vents when the system turns on
  • Supply and return grilles look gray or fuzzy, even after you wipe them
  • A musty or stale smell when the AC or heat runs
  • More dust around the house than usual
  • Rooms that feel stuffy or get less airflow than they used to
  • Signs of rodents or insects near vents or in the attic

One sign on its own isn’t proof your ducts need cleaning. A technician can look inside the ductwork and tell you what’s actually there before you decide.

How Our Air Duct Cleaning Works

Every Air & Drain Works duct cleaning follows the same basic steps:

  1. Inspection. A technician checks your vents, returns and accessible ductwork, then walks you through what they found and which cleaning package fits your home.
  2. Cleaning. We loosen buildup inside the ducts and pull it out with vacuum equipment, so the dust leaves your system instead of blowing into your rooms.
  3. Optional sanitizing. If you choose sanitizing, it’s applied after cleaning.
  4. Final walkthrough. We show you the results and point out anything else we noticed in the system.

Most homes are finished the same day.

Because we’re an HVAC company, our HVAC duct cleaning doesn’t stop at dust. If we find leaking or disconnected ducts, damaged insulation or airflow problems, we’ll tell you and explain your options.

What’s Included In Air Duct Cleaning?

What’s included depends on the cleaning package you choose. Packages cover your supply and return ducts and vents, and your technician will explain exactly what each option covers before any work starts, so you only pay for what your home needs.

Air Duct Sanitizing

Sanitizing is an optional add-on to air duct cleaning. It’s applied after the ducts are cleaned to treat the inside of the system. The EPA recommends that homeowners understand any treatment before it’s used in their ducts, so your technician will explain what’s applied and why before adding it to your service.

Can Mold In Air Ducts Be Cleaned?

Mold in air ducts can be cleaned from hard surfaces like sheet metal ducts. Cleaning alone won’t stop it from coming back, though. Mold grows where there’s moisture, and in San Antonio’s humid climate that often means a condensation, leak or drainage problem in the HVAC system. According to the EPA, if the conditions that caused the mold aren’t corrected, the mold will return.

Insulated ducts are different. The EPA says insulation that gets wet or moldy can’t be effectively cleaned and should be removed and replaced. As a licensed AC contractor, Air & Drain Works can handle both the cleaning and the duct replacement, and find the moisture source so the problem stays fixed.

Is Air Duct Cleaning Worth It?

Air duct cleaning is worth it when there’s a real reason for it: visible mold, pests, heavy dust buildup, recent construction or a home with an unknown history. In those cases, cleaning removes buildup that would otherwise keep circulating through your system.

It’s not a cure-all. The EPA notes that duct cleaning has never been shown to prevent health problems, and a light layer of household dust in your ducts isn’t a health risk. That’s why every visit starts with an inspection, so you know what’s in your ducts before you spend money cleaning them.

Better Indoor Air Beyond Your Ducts

Clean ducts work best as part of a cleaner system. Regular AC maintenance keeps filters fresh and coils clean, Air & Drain Works membership plans include ductwork checks, and our indoor air quality services add filtration and purification for homes dealing with dust, allergens or San Antonio’s winter cedar pollen.

Air Duct Cleaning FAQ

Most air duct cleaning jobs are finished the same day. Larger homes with more vents take more of the day.

How Much Does Air Duct Cleaning Cost In San Antonio?

Air duct cleaning cost depends mostly on how many vents your home has and which cleaning package you choose. Your technician will give you a price after the inspection, before any work starts.
